The integration of security into the built-environment is a process commonly referred to as "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design" (CPTED). Generally, CPTED involves the design of the built-environment, based on certain fundamental principles, in order to reduce the opportunity for criminal behavior and or other illegitimate activities. Creative CPTED also includes measures allowing for quicker and more efficient response by first responders including law enforcement should such a response become necessary.
